YouTube link or file: which source should you choose?
Understand the difference between previewing a public link and uploading a file, especially for private videos.
MadeinVox team · September 25, 2026A public link speeds up preparation
An accessible YouTube link shows the title, channel, thumbnail and, when YouTube provides it, the duration. This preview lets you check the source before creating a project.
The availability of this data varies with the video, the region, age restrictions and YouTube’s limits. If the duration does not come through, try the preview again or use your source file.
A file remains the reliable route for private content
A private link does not allow a third-party service to access the media. Upload an authorised copy from your device if you want to work on that content.
The current limit is 5 GB per file. The app reads the file’s duration locally before preparing the project; no long or paid processing starts at this stage.
Check the rights in both cases
Being able to open a video does not prove the right to modify or redistribute it. Make sure your use of the content and the voice matches your permissions.
Keep the consents needed for identifiable voices, especially if you choose to reproduce a speaker’s original voice.
